Linked In — Getting Connected & Building a Network of Skill Sets

For about a year, I have been on Linked In building my network of connects. As of this writing I am at 500+ connections. I have been learning that Linked In is a great place to meet people working in the business or industry that you want to become a part of. When you start to pursue a career path, these are some things to focus on when setting up your profile.

1. Contact Information: It is very important that your contact information is up to date. Make sure your links to your portfolio and medium articles as well as your current phone number and email address. This is important because recruiters and hiring teams will use this information.
2. Open to Work Settings: Under these settings it is very important that you list the keywords for job titles that are under the Unity banner. Because you have become a “Core Unity” developer you are qualified for anything involving Unity.
3. Workplaces: On-Site, Hybrid, Remote. To get the most offers, select all work types, otherwise, select the ones that apply to you.
4. Job Locations (on site): United States (first one is always your primary location to work) and any other countries you want to work.
5. Job Locations (remote): State/Province, Country (first one is always your primary location to work) and any other locations you would like to receive work from.
6. Start Date: Always select “Immediate, I’m actively applying”. “Flexible, I’m casually browsing” is for when you are not actively searching for a position.
7. Job Types: You want to select all of the types even if you aren’t looking to be an intern or part-time. This way recruiters will see your information and you can ask about other opportunities besides the one they called you about.
8. All Members/Recruiters Only Banner: This is purely up to the user. There is no data to suggest it works better one way or the other. It is just user preference.
